Island of Eleuthera Bahamas by Car Part 2

We found Eleuthera to be an amazing find at the same time we also found it disappointing.

Why disappointing? A theme we’ve noticed as we travel from Abacos to Eleuthera Bahamas is a lot of hype with very little substance. Guide books and reviews of Governor’s Harbour say it’s a vibrant town with shopping and interesting festivals. What we saw was an uninteresting community with run down shops, loud cars even louder motor cycles, extremely expensive food with very little choice, and vulgar pulsating rap music. Not unlike how one might envision a stereo typical US “ghetto” hood.

With that said, the Eleuthera sound and Atlantic ocean are amazing. The geographic sites almost don’t seem to end. The beaches are pink, white, and secluded. The land is truly amazing. As we saw in Yr1 Ep 15, Harbour Town has been kept up for tourists. We’re not necessarily tourist type people but we do appreciate when a community has pride in their home and keeps it clean.

In this episode, we finish our car tour of Eleuthera. In it we visit a place called ” The Cliffs ” where we meet a family on vacation. It was fun to see the dad and the three boys eagerly plunging from over 60′ into the deep blue of the Atlantic and to watch mom’s less than enthusiastic embrace of this particular family activity.

Preacher and Cathedral cave were both must sees for their own reasons. In Yr1 Ep15 we learned about Preacher Cave and how Eleuthera was established. In this episode we see more natural inspiration from Cathedral Cave and the boiling hole.

In Yr1 Ep 17 we’ll have our final thoughts on Eleuthera and give you one special tip that is an absolute must when visiting the Bahamas.
