The Island of Eleuthera by Car part 1

One of the reasons we have designed our life with giant amounts of freedom is so that we can see interesting places.  Living on our boat gives us the freedom to sail to places and see them from a different perspective than if we were to fly there like all you land lubbers.  Of course, this means of travel has it’s limitations on land.

The Island of Eleuthera Bahamas has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  It has has some amazing caves, knee knocking cliffs, and interesting history.  Governor’s Harbour was once the capital of the Bahamas and Harour Town was a notorious pirate hangout. Right now the main industry on the island is tourism.  There is big surf on the Atlantic side, tranquil teal water on the Caribbean side, and Bahamian culture abounds.  Eleuthera however, was once more than a tourist destination.

The island was once known for cattle farming, pineapple farming, and other agricultural endeavors.  In fact, a drive along the only highway will reveal abandoned grain silos from those days.  We jumped in a car for a day to drive the entirety of the highway and get a feel for the culture as well as search for some of those famed pineapples.
